Full job description (from employer)⌄

Project Manager / Project Engineer – BESS Location: Stoke-on-Trent (3 days on site) Rate: £400 per day Contract: Long-term, anticipated until mid-2028 Sector: Battery Energy Storage / Power Infrastructure A major UK energy infrastructure project. A long-term contract. The opportunity to take ownership of key work packages on a large-scale BESS development. We're working with an established energy infrastructure contractor looking for an experienced Project Manager or Project Engineer to support the delivery of a major Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project near Stoke-on-Trent. This isn't a role where you'll simply be overseeing progress from a distance. You'll take direct responsibility for delivering allocated work packages, managing subcontractors and suppliers, coordinating engineering interfaces and ensuring everything progresses smoothly through construction, commissioning and handover. Working alongside an experienced project delivery team, you'll play a key role in keeping the project on programme and resolving issues before they become bigger problems. What you'll be doing Taking ownership of allocated work packages from procurement through to construction, commissioning and handover. Managing subcontractors, suppliers and OEMs to ensure delivery against agreed programmes and milestones. Coordinating with engineering teams to manage design interfaces, technical queries and package dependencies. Monitoring progress, identifying potential delays and implementing recovery plans where required. Working closely with construction, commissioning and commercial teams to ensure successful package delivery. Managing technical and programme risks, variations and changes throughout the project lifecycle. Ensuring all relevant testing, commissioning and handover documentation is completed. What we're looking for You'll ideally come from a Project Management, Project Engineering or Package Management background within BESS, HV infrastructure, substations, power generation or major EPC projects. We're particularly interested in speaking with people who have: Experience delivering significant engineering or construction work packages on complex infrastructure projects. A strong understanding of multidisciplinary engineering, particularly electrical infrastructure and associated civils. Proven experience managing subcontractors, suppliers and technical interfaces. Experience coordinating procurement, construction, testing and commissioning activities. Good commercial awareness and an understanding of project programmes, risks and variations. An engineering qualification (degree, HNC/HND or equivalent). Previous experience on BESS projects would be advantageous, as would exposure to HV substations, grid connections, protection and control systems or FIDIC contracts. However, you don't necessarily need to have worked on a battery storage project before. We're equally interested in candidates with transferable experience delivering complex electrical or energy infrastructure projects. What's on offer? £400 per day Long-term contract opportunity, anticipated to run until mid-2028. Hybrid working, with a minimum of three days per week on site near Stoke-on-Trent. Opportunity to work on a major UK battery storage development. An established project team and the chance to take genuine ownership of your work packages. If you've got a strong engineering delivery background and enjoy being involved in the detail of getting major infrastructure projects built, we'd be keen to hear from you.
